| Albatross Model Numbers The Albatross went through a number of designation changes throughout its life. Various designations were used to identify short wing and long wing variants. USN, USAF, USCG and RCAF models each had different numbers, with further differentiation between long wing and short wing. In addition, there were several special purpose designations for Navy Triphibians, Navy Trainers and Anti-Submarine conversions. In 1962, the Department of Defense, created a new numbering scheme where by all services would use common designations with suffixes for idenfication of variants. Click here for more information on this change. In general, when the terms 'A model' and 'B model' are used they refer to short wing and long wing models respectively. The short wings include all variants of the UF-1 and SA-16A, as well as all xU-16A and xU-16C's.
